Amite is the parish seat of Tangipahoa, first settled on the banks of the Tangipahoa River and incorporated in 1861. Its downtown is a historic district on the National Register, and some of its houses are listed on their own. Houses built before central air were made for cross-breezes, high ceilings and open windows, not sealed-up central air. Putting modern A/C into them takes care. Ducts run through tight attics and get crushed or disconnected. Old walls and windows let humid air in, so a system can cool the rooms and still leave them sticky. We start with a load calculation for your actual house, then seal the ducts we can reach and check that the system is pulling moisture out. Where running ductwork would mean cutting into plaster or trim, a ductless mini-split can cool a room quietly with only a small line through the wall. Newer homes get the same careful check.
That’s why we start every Amite visit with a load calculation and moisture readings, then size, seal and drain the system for the house it’s in.
