The Abita River runs west-southwest right through Abita Springs on its way to the Bogue Falaya, the Tchefuncte and Lake Pontchartrain. In the river’s basin, the Abita Creek Flatwoods Preserve protects longleaf pine savanna. The town itself is known for its artesian wells. So you get two things in the air here: moisture and pine pollen. Pollen coats the outdoor coil and loads up your filter. Moisture keeps the house feeling sticky if the system can’t pull it out. If you notice dust on the vents, a musty smell when the A/C kicks on, or allergies that get worse indoors, start with the air. We change or upgrade the filter, clean the coils, and check the drain line and pan for growth. Then we check that the system is sized and set up to dry the air, not just cool it. If the ducts leak, we seal them so they stop pulling in attic air.
That’s why we start every Abita Springs visit with a load calculation and moisture readings, then size, seal and drain the system for the house it’s in.
